BBC RADIO WORK

It's commissioning time at the BBC again so I'm desperately trying to think up a few stories to submit to them. They don't pay much, but the Light got a million listeners in July, which is a lot for radio these days. Meanwhile, here are my previous broadcasts.

THE GOOD CONDUCTOR

First broadcast BBC Radio 4, Boxing Day 2010

Repeated Easter 2011

Written and presented by Bernard Hare

A Real Good Samaritan

An act of kindness that befell me in 1982 inspired this story and changed me profoundly. Then a student living just north of London, I often tell the story to troubled young people to help them deal with their disrupted lives.

POVERTY IS A STATE OF MIND

First broadcast 28th November 2012

THE ESSAY, BBC Radio 3

Written and presented by Bernard Hare

A contribution to the BBC's WHY POVERTY season.

Many notable worthies were invited to contribute to the BBC's Why Poverty  season, so it was an honour to be asked to do a piece.  I chose to ramble through my lifetime's experience in and around poverty. As a miner's son, I especially wanted to write about them. They were rich men without a penny to their name.

THE LIGHT

First broadcast BBC Radio 4, 9th July 2015

Written and presented by Bernard Hare

How my father gave me a terrifying lesson at 10

"The author Bernard Hare recalls the day, forty years ago, his dad took him on a terrifying trip down a coal mine - and how that day changed his life. This is a story of fatherhood, fear and learning."
