ABOUT

I was born in East End Park, Leeds, in 1958. My dad was a coal miner and my mam worked in Lewis's on the Headrow. I attended All Saints junior school and then Central High grammar school. After gaining a BA in Applied Social Studies at Hatfield Polytechnic (now Hertfordshire University), I became a social worker in London.

Disillusioned with the system following the miners’ strike of 1984/85, I dropped out, working occasionally as a mechanic, removal man and community worker. I started writing seriously around the year 2000.

I am affiliated to Leeds Chess Club. I've been a member for more than 20 years and was secretary of the club for 10 years. I am also a lifelong supporter of Leeds United.

I enjoy fell walking and the great outdoors.
